Beta Launch Activated!

Greetings Purple Planet Backers,

The beta version of rollfunkydice is live! https://rfd.fly.dev/ This an open beta for finding out if there is anything left to fix. New accounts will be BETA accounts and subject to change if needed in this phase. While beta testing is occurring I will be putting in place the Settings page where people can manage their subscription. Reminder, if you selected a subscription pledge, the subscription time will not start until the official launch happens. Let me know if there are any questions on that. If everything goes smoothly, the next step is to officially launch the new Rollfunkydice!

Release Notes: 

  • Registering a new account sends a confirmation to your email address. Click on that link to confirm that you intended to register and you will be taken to your private Character Catalog.
  • The Character Catalog is where you can randomly generate characters. You can edit the characters and add customized dice rolls to each of them individually. The random generation includes possible Kith and Robot classes for when the Purple Planet comes into orbit.
  • You also have a public room to invite anyone to your adventure. Initially the room name is the name you provided and you can change this in your Character Catalog. Share this link with your adventurers!
  • The public room is where the initiative tracker lives. Characters have a custom initiative dice roll that ends up in the tracker. But you could also create a custom roll with the word 'initiative' or 'init' to have that roll result end up in the initiative tracker.
  • Custom dice rolls you create can be informed by certain values of your character. For example, when creating a custom roll for your Cleric, you can add the Personality ability modifier so that it takes it into account whenever you cast with that custom roll (provided there is an ability modifier value to add).

Roll Funky Dice Beta Launch Update – A Few More Days!

Greetings!

Today is September 21, our anticipated beta launch date, and I wanted to keep you updated. During final testing, I discovered an issue where a single dice roll was being recorded multiple times in the database, leading to duplicate, sometimes triplicate entries. If left unchecked, the size of the database would have rivaled the Purple Planet itself!

Fixing this took more time than expected and delayed some of the other quality checks I had planned. As a result, I need a few more days to ensure everything runs smoothly before the beta launch. I apologize for the delay and truly appreciate your patience. I can’t wait to share this with you very soon!

Hello backers of the Purple Planet on Roll Funky Dice!

It has been some time since the last update, but the old sun is starting to rise on the Purple Planet. The news right now is that I am looking to launch the beta on Sept. 21 for backers only. This will be a dedicated URL that I will send out. This is for me to make sure all the dice roll as the ancestors intended and hear if you want to provide any feedback or concerns. For those of you that have yearly or 3-year subscriptions, those do not start until the full launch happens with a new rollfunkydice.com. 

Some specific notes on the planned features:

Character Sheets
The character generator is in place! Including Kith and Robot characters, you can create, edit and store character data with your account. Each character has a predefined set of actions similar to the dice roll buttons on the current RFD site. For example: saving throws are buttons that will use the modifier recorded in the character sheet. You will be able to add custom actions and store them with your character.

Initiative Tracker
One of the actions predefined in a character is the Initiative roll. Pressing this button will place your character in the order in a list which will persist until the tracker is cleared or a new reckoning is at hand.

Saving Game Session Data
Speaking of persisting data, there is no longer a need to press a button to save the last 20 rolls. Now the state of the room and your saved characters are backed by the database. If somehow the demands of the Earth collide with your adventures on the Purple Planet, you can close the browser window and breathe to explore another day.

ESCAPE FROM THE LAND OF DOS
This mini-adventure is ready to rock! Written and illustrated by C. Aaron Kreader of Studio 9 Games, I am excited to get this released. No spoilers.

Enhanced Player View
After you log in at RFD, you will first arrive at your personal player view. This is the spot to curate the characters you have made in your room or belong to the rooms you are participating in. It is also where you can get the shareable URL of your room and tweak the settings of your account.

Original Art
C. Aaron Kreader has finished making specific art for each of the class types! They will be part of the character sheet and will accompany you for your short? long? adventure on the Purple Planet. They really bring the characters life. I am excited for you check them out.

That is the state all of the things. I still have some odds and ends to barter with the Kith to get RFD firmly established on the Purple Planet. I will update again if there is any issue. If not, expect the next update will be the beta URL on Sept. 21!

A big thank you to everyone for supporting rollfunkydice! This campaign has cleared every stretch goal. We are going from a simple room where we see each other's dice rolls to helping track the details of initiative tracking, character sheets and what the heck happened last session. That will be especially helpful for those once-a-month gaming sessions!

Expect a BackerKit survey to come out soon so that you can provide the email address you would like to use for setting up an account at the new rollfunkydice.com. 

The final rendition of rollfunkydice.com is expected to ship in August. All the while until then, I'll be sending out updates and inviting those backers who would like to beta test as rollfunkydice fortifies itself at its new home.

Roll Funky Dice is going to the Purple Planet!

A big thank you to everyone for supporting this project! This campaign is taking us to the next level. We are going from a simple room to see each other's dice rolls to helping track the details of initiative tracking, character sheets and what happened last session. Especially for those once-a-month gaming sessions!

Attaining this latest stretch goal means that a player is not tied to a dice-rolling room to generate characters or fiddle with complex dice rolls in the middle of taking your action. Now with the player view, you have a 'green room' space in your own account to make characters and save the dice rolls unique to their most wielded weapons and spells, all outside of the gaming session.

This next stretch goal will bring in more original art from C. Aaron Kreader at Studio 9 Games!
